Biography

Dr. Hetty Prinsen obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands, with a major in pathobiology and a minor in drug research. She stayed in Nijmegen for her doctoral training at the Biomedical MR Research Group and the department of Medical Oncology at the Radboud University Medical Center. Hetty studied physiological and neurophysiological aspects of postcancer fatigue through a comprehensive randomized-controlled trial. In addition to electromyography of the biceps brachii muscle and maximal cycling exercise tests, she applied MR imaging and spectroscopy of the human brain at 3 Tesla. Hetty obtained region-specific brain volumes and metabolite concentrations and correlated these outcome measures with fatigue and psycho-social scores. Among these different disciplines, clinical MR research was her main interest. Hetty joined Dr. Christoph Juchem’s lab in 2013 as a Postdoctoral Associate. Her current research interests include MR imaging and spectroscopy at 7 Tesla in clinical conditions like multiple sclerosis, diabetes and post-traumatic stress disorder.
